Sinema @ Old School

Sinema Old School is an independent cinema dedicated to Singapore films. Located atop Mount Sophie, in the new arts hub of Singapore, it provides opportunities for local filmmakers and students to interact and exchange ideas. Not to mention their Incubator Programme, which is very encouraging for film makers, students and professionals alike, to showcase their works. You may want to know about Sinema here.

I was really excited when I saw the trailers of The Carrot Cake Conversations (starring Andrea Fonseka!), 18 Grams of Love and House of Harmony (by Fann Wong and Maggie Q), among many other award winning films.

Another movie, The Olive Depression, depicts the resentment of an 18 year old boy just before his enlistment into the army. The depression led us into thinking about our freedom of choice in this pro-government society.

Of course, I got attracted to some movies just by their titles, like The Teenage Textbook Movie and Sweet Dreams and Turtle Soup. What a strong Singapore flavour they portray! On a random note, did anyone watch the recent movie Sweet Tapioca Porridge on Channel 5, 10pm last Wednesday? My friend had a 5 min fame in one of the staff room scene! =D

Ranging from $5-$8 per ticket, I think it is much more meaningful to spend a few hours at Sinema, reflecting on the society we live in and at the same time, supporting local film industry. I'll be glad to visit the Sinema one day!
