Housing the photos

We bought a sleek photo album for the photographs initially but it turns out that the clean and crisp plastic laminate over the pictures in the album seemed contradictory to the adventurous and unpredictable experience of lomography.

These photographs should be felt with the hands,

we thought.

We wanted the 'recycled paper colour' for a raw vintage feel so we got a relatively cheap schedule book ($4.90) from Muji and inked the cover page with stencil, marker and stickers.

Im glad to have printed the matt photographs with a white border. They look way better like this.

We deliberately stick those pictures with masking tape to get a rugged feel. Handwriting was perferred over printed words for a more personalised touch. The more D.I.Y the better. The more old-school the better. The less fanciful the better.

The stickers were coincidentally appropriate too! I got them from Eastpoint! by the way, EASTPOINT ROCKS if you have forgotten about it HAHAHAHHAA ;)

This album is still way below scrap booking standards, but it is definitely a cheap and easy method to keep those memories! There is still a long way to go...!

Why do you lomo?

"For its unpredictability. Because i know every new roll is going to be an adventure, there’s a good level of suspense involved. Because it makes me work hard at it – using film, i only snap one shot of each subject, which means i have to be very sure of the composition, the lighting, etc. And because I’m using film, I refrain from shooting mundane everyday life, I make sure I go out and explore new and old places. It’s something I have to make time for, and that means it’s important to me and that’s just how it’s going to be for a good long while! Oh and Lomo cameras are so awesome because there’s one for each and every different type of person out there. Whether you’re a newbie or an oldie, there’s always another camera you want to try and master."

We wanted to do something fun with multiple-exposure! This shot was taken with lots of laughter and some public stares when each of us take turn to pose as though the other party was right beside!

Under-exposed, a pity.

The two frames here seemed to form a complete photo coincidentally!

The frame on the left is David's 'Award winning shot' HAHAHA! Thats exactly what he said right after he took it! I think its nice too!! The DNA and the Double Helix Bridge, Exactly!

I thought it would be gd if someone jumped instead of standing still like I did hahaha! I was too shy to jump then! Anyway, it won't be easy to capture a jump shot with lomo.

David the daredevil took a micro shot of the security guard's polo tee form the back when the latter was busy directing the people!

I wasn't laughing heartedly! I was trying to pose like Im going to gobble him up! -_-"

This was taken at the Stadium Mrt Station in the newly opened Circle Line. You gotta check out this beautiful station, trust me!

We ♥ going round the island with Diana Mini! The sweat we shed definitely paid off when we receive beautiful pictures at the end of the day! The anticipation we have on the way to collect the prints is beyond words. We can't help it but buy the next film for the next shoot!

Now we cannot wait to conquer Ann Siang Hill with FujiChrome Sensia 100! It gonna give us RED HOT photos! :D

35mm B/W Square

Last Saturday, Shan Ming, Soo Yong and I went on a 4 hr photo-taking expedition at Bugis! SM brought her Golden Half and Blackbird Fly while I continue exploring my Diana Mini. This time, I used B/W film and SM's BBF was using slide film. Check it out!

Loving SQUARES and HALVES

Our test shoots are out! Im so excited about it that I can't stop staring at these photos! I wanna try so many other kind of film and play with my Diana Mini again real soon!! Here are my favourites from the 77 photos I've just collected.

After 2 rolls of film.

The idea of low-tech, plastic film cameras is thrilling and very very addictive as it juxtaposed with the instant gratification one gets easily from digital photography these days. Looking through the 10mm pinhole, the subject appeared differently as it is when you see it from the 3.5 inch LCD on any ixus or lumix. Sometimes, the pictures look better when you don't think before you shoot. Im still learning this art of randomness.

Best of all, I've got a great companion to begin this lomography journey together.

I wouldn't have thought that the vice-president of the photographic society 8 years ago would be my boyfriend now. It isn't about the Valentines' gift. It felt like something about fate that is indescribable, about 2 people sharing a common interest, but not for the sake of each other, continue to explore what they had loved or/and is loving, hand in hand.

It is a gift that makes both the sender and the receiver very very happy. Thank you David Chen.
