guo mama's day, erm, dayS

The Guo family had early Mothers' Day dinner at Nyonya & Baba at Vivocity. The food come in small portions but were surprisingly filling. Having been there for the 2nd time, I was kinda sick of the menu. Pardon the lousy photos taken by W910i under dim lighting.

standard starters.

ribs in satay sauce, ngor hiang, curry chicken and homestyle seafood soup. I especially like the curry chicken and ngor hiang.

Their signature otah is nice but very spicy! Never judge an Otah by its looks!

The seafood soup, or maybe not. Cant rem the name but theres fishball and some vege. Very homestyle. I think my mum can cook this too.

The curry chicken as mentioned above. Or is it not? My memory is failing me!

Crayfish! Im not so sure about the sauce but it didnt taste as nice as the teochew crayfish in teochew st when I was in lower sec. A pity that the restaurant closed down years ago.

Mothers' Day did not come to a close with the nyonya dinner. Round 2 was carried out the following day at A-Roy Thai restaurant, Funan DigitaLife Mall. The restaurant was run by a thai family, thus the authentic Thai dishes. The dinner was quite a disappointment for we had high expectations from the numerous awards and newpaper clippings. No pictures, coz none of the dishes are worth the shoot. Well, maybe except for the traditional dessert.

Glutinous Rice with Mango can only be described as heavenly. The mango was so fresh yet soft that I wanted to buy the fruit from the restaurant! The rice was commendable for its subtle sticky texture. Obviously, we were halfway through the dessert when the photo was taken.

Whats a celebration without the gift? I got this dirt cheap at $48 from Dollars and Scent, Peninsular Plaza. Thank god they were having Mothers' Day promotion, even though their perfume are already 40% cheaper than anywhere else*. For the same volume of 125ml of Elizaberth Arden's 5th Ave After 5, it would be $100+ at Robinson's counter. Ain't I lucky or lucky?

*According to Wilson and Gilbert!
